One thing that can trouble teachers is how to teach reading skills in an engaging and interesting way. When I was learning French or German at school, my teachers would give us a block of text – not all that I could understand – some comprehension questions and let us get on with it. Fast forward 25 years, and I have created some techniques to ensure that reading is dynamic and exciting.

In this Episode of Teaching Tips, I offer teachers Ten Reading Tips to make your next lesson more interesting for students. I have broken down the ten tips into three sections: before reading, during reading and after reading ideas.

What ideas do you have when you have a reading task for your students? Do you follow the same format as mentioned in the video: pre, during and post reading?

In a future video, it would be really cool if I could record a reading class demonstrating some of these ideas but unfortunately organising such a task is quite arduous and I am hoping that I can offer more real lesson videos soon.

Finally, I am finding it harder and harder to plan, script, record and edit videos so I will be letting everyone know when the new schedule for videos from next month. It is a great project and I hope by the end of the year, that more content will be available for teachers, students and others involved in English Language Teacher.

Many thanks for your patience and if you have any suggestions, please comment below.
